New Hyundai IONIQ 6 named ‘Best EV Compact Executive Car’ at Great British Fleet Awards

Hyundai’s trailblazing new, all-electric IONIQ 6 has collected another prestigious honour after being crowned ‘Best EV Compact Executive Car’ at the Great British Fleet Awards.

The annual awards, organised by the UK’s leading fleet title Fleet World, seek to recognise the best fleet-focused vehicles on the market, as well as cutting-edge developments in the industry. They are designed to honour excellence in fleet management, alongside the products and services that support operators running safer, greener, more cost-effective fleets, and are judged by Fleet World’s expert panel of editors.

The Hyundai IONIQ 6 held off the challenge of a number of rivals to emerge as a clear winner in the ‘Best EV Compact Executive Car’ category, with the judges praising the all-round appeal it holds for fleet customers, hailing its high level of specification and suite of innovative features in particular.

John Challen, editor of Fleet World, said: “The IONIQ 6 builds on the big success of the IONIQ 5 with a car that offers more refinement, comfort and space than its smaller sibling. A quality interior and advanced technology onboard are particular highlights that will be welcomed by many fleet drivers.”

The recognition from Fleet World is the latest high-profile accolade for the IONIQ 6, which is based on the same Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) as the IONIQ 5, and has been launched to similar widespread acclaim. Earlier in April, it dominated the World Car Awards by being crowned World Car of the Year, World Electric Vehicle and World Car Design of the Year, matching the IONIQ 5’s triple wins in 2022.

In addition, World Car Awards judges also named the creative force behind the IONIQ 6’s sleek Streamliner design, SangYup Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of Hyundai and Genesis Global Design Centre, as World Person of the Year.

The IONIQ 6 has also been named ‘Saloon of the Year’ at the 2023 GQ Car Awards plus its excellent safety credentials were endorsed as it achieved a five-star safety rating and ‘Best in Class’ selection in the ‘Large Family Car’ category from Euro NCAP.

Orders for the IONIQ 6 opened in November, with prices starting at £46,475 and first deliveries will be made in May. Customers have a choice of either a rear-wheel drive powertrain offering 228PS and 350Nm or an all-wheel drive powertrain with 325PS and 605Nm. All models feature the long range 77.4 kWh battery, with the E-GMP platform’s standard 800v charging system providing 350kW ultra-fast charger compatibility, and generously equipped Premium and Ultimate trim lines are available.

Ashley Andrew, President of Hyundai Motor UK, said: “There has been a lot of focus on the sophisticated, cutting-edge design of the IONIQ 6, but what this award from the experts at Fleet World also underlines is how it makes perfect sense for real-world, high-mileage fleet drivers who spend more time than most in their cars. We are absolutely delighted they have recognised that the IONIQ 6’s long-distance EV performance, high-quality interior and array of advanced tech make it a thoroughly compelling choice for fleets.”

A full feature on all the winners of the 2023 Great British Fleet Awards will appear in the June issue of Fleet World.
