Driving digitalisation: Alphabet International appoints new digital lead
MUNICH 10/09/2024 – Alphabet International has appointed Dr. Jan Widenmann to the newly established role of Chief Digitalisation Officer Europe. Jan will be at the forefront of driving the company's digital transformation, reflecting Alphabet's commitment to integrating state-of-the-art technologies and enhancing operational efficiency to offer superior value to its customers.
Steering digital progress
In his new position, Dr. Jan Widenmann aims to enhance the digital mindset within the region Europe even further, leveraging the rapid advancements in new technologies. His key objectives include implementing a future-proof system landscape to enhance customer centricity, establishing data as a core product for smart and fast processes, and sharpening Alphabet´s cross-market and cross-functional collaboration on digitalisation. “The Chief Digitalisation Officer is an essential puzzle piece in Alphabet’s transformation across the entire region Europe, turning it into a highly digital and data-driven organisation,” says Widenmann. “I am excited to take on this role and lead Alphabet’s digital strategy forward.”
Dr. Jan Widenmann, with a PhD in Financial and Actuarial Mathematics, brings extensive experience from BMW, where he first focused on risk management, leading the implementation of IFRS9 in North America. Returning to Europe, Widenmann took on the role of Chief Risk Officer in Switzerland, where he oversaw all risk-related tasks for both BMW Financial Services and Alphabet. His extensive experience in managing risks and leading digital transformation projects has prepared him well for his new role at Alphabet.
Unlocking combined potential for greater impact
This newly established role, Chief Digitalisation Officer Europe, marks a strategic pivot towards a unified digital vision within the company. This role is designed to synchronise with existing functions to foster innovation, streamline operations, and enrich customer interactions. Dr. Jan Widenmann, assuming this role, will also collaborate with the Chief ESG Officer to ensure digital initiatives align with Alphabet’s commitment to sustainability. Sven Straub, Head of Region Europe at BMW Group Financial Services, highlights the importance of both roles, stating, "These functions are extremely important in navigating the company and taking it to the next level.
